| TITO, the potter In the year 1965, Juan Martinez Villacañas "TITO", which was born 25 years ago in a family of long tradition pottery must choose between leaving the job he had learned and exercised since childhood, or what they have learned to adapt everything then to make the new company accepted and valued production pottery that has lost the battle functional (apparently) versus new materials (Duralex, plastic…) and technological advances (electricity, agricultural irrigation, domestic water). Fortunately, Juan Martinez "TITO", ignoring the siren songs that pushing him to change his motion, decides to stay in his workshop, maintaining and restoring the best of the Iberian rich pottery tradition, incorporating techniques and designs themselves or forgotten. This effort ethical and aesthetic begin to be born a few pieces of history but pregnant with a personality and finished in Ubeda unknown since the Renaissance. This production, adapted to new uses and to taste contemporary take sealed from the outset the stamp "TITO-Ubeda," which betrays its authority throughout the world and eventually being able to model and potters who join or rejoin the profession to see the success of "model TITO." |
